Introducing the Asus RT-AX58U - Performance Review

Looking to upgrade your home Wi-Fi network? The Asus RT-AX58U can give your home that extra boost, providing faster speeds and more reliable coverage with its Wi-Fi 6 protocol. Learn about the setup process, performance reviews, and how this router can benefit your home in this article.

Unboxing and Setup for the RT-AX58U

Unboxing and setting up the RT-AX58U will take only a few minutes. The router comes with an Ethernet cable, power cord, and quick installation guide that makes router setup fast and simple. Once you have connected the device to your modem, follow the instructions for logging into the router's administration page where you can customize settings as desired.

Testing Coverage and Signal Strength

Testing the router’s coverage throughout a home or office environment is the best way to evaluate its performance. To do that, we connected the Asus RT-AX58U to our modem, created an isolated network, and proceeded to measure signal strength in different areas of our facility. The result was impressive; 6ft away, we received no less than 500 Mbps of download speed and as far as 20ft away in any direction, speeds remained stable and at least above 80Mbps for both uploads and downloads.

Measuring Streaming Performance of 4K Video

To determine streaming performance, we connected the RT-AX58U to a 4K smart TV and tried streaming a 4K video in an otherwise quiet Wi-Fi environment. The result was impressive. We observed no buffering at any point over the entire duration of the movie, with download speeds remaining above 20Mbps and upload speeds staying near 3Mbps. This indicates that the router is capable of offering a seamless user experience when it comes to streaming high-definition media.

Analyzing Range and Bandwidth Results against Competition

To compare the RT-AX58U performance to that of other routers in its class, we ran some basic range and bandwidth tests—using an iPhone 6 as a receiver device—against multiple competing models. In our tests, we observed that the router had a greater range than most routers within its class, with signal strength remaining strong even when over 40 feet away. Similarly, its bandwidth scores were amongst the highest out of all competing models tested.

Determining Overal Reliability, Ease of Use, and Security Standards

The RT-AX58U combines large data transfer speeds with an intuitive user interface, making it easy to get up and running. Furthermore, the router includes a range of security features including Parental Controls, Guest Network Access, and Firewall settings that all aid in secure browsing. In addition, the router includes a built-in update feature which ensures that the device is always running with optimized settings.
